SR7b Approved to Solve Jeddah’s Many Problems

JEDDAH, 23 July 2003 — Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, has approved a budget of SR7 billion over the next five years to solve Jeddah’s many problems, Al-Madinah reported.

Jeddah mayor Eng. Abdullah Al-Muallami said the money would enable Jeddah to solve its sewage and groundwater problem as well as build two roads connecting east and west Jeddah.

The mayor told the paper the minister of municipal and rural affairs signed three contracts totaling SR85 million to solve the groundwater problem, and results would be visible in two years.

Over the next five years, he said, the city would stop pumping raw sewage into the sea.
