Gunman Opens Fire on People in a Local Mosque

WADI AL-DAWASER, 23 July 2003 — Police in Wadi Al-Dawaser, south of Riyadh, are searching for a gunman who killed a man and wounded four others at a local mosque, Al-Watan reported.

The man entered the mosque during Friday prayers and opened fire from a machine gun, the paper said. The Imam of the mosque is among the four injured and is in critical condition.

The newspaper said the man earlier entered the mosque and found a man in what he said was his father’s regular place of worship, and when the man refused to move, he left and later returned with a machine gun and began shooting.
