RIYADH, 25 July 2003 — Ed de Leon’s SkyFreight STR team walked home with two separate victories during last Friday’s encounter. Composed of veteran players, STR was piloted well by team captain Jimmy Vallestero winning over Malubay’s strong line-up, and stopping their bid for a perfect win card.
In their game against Filex Malubay, STR took six of the eight singles courtesy of Emer Cortez, Ferry Cortez, Oliver Cruz, Lito Javier, Fred Villapando and Edgar Garcia for a 6-2 output. Adrian Tolentino and Edwin Canales tried to stay alive in the first doubles but STR’s Oliver Cruz and Fred Villapando prevailed.
Second pair Lito Javier and Edgar Garcia repeated the scenario over Edgar Andayran and Henry Faustino giving no room for a deciding leg for the Malubay team. In the final match, the quartet of Oliver Cruz, Fred Borja, Lito Javier and Edgar Garcia improved the winning score to 13-4.
Fresh from the win, SkyFreight STR repeated the same against the Visayan Cargo Bulls of Eding Galera by winning the game in the deciding leg, 11-6. Meanwhile, MRM Phoenix captained by Lino Leonardo bagged two more victories by snatching the top spot from Filex Malubay with an identical 8-1 win-loss record but ahead with 4 points - 100 to 96. Utex Striker Point remained on No. 3 position with a 5-4 card with 80 points. COD Wakaray trailed behind with 4-5 record and 86 points while SkyFreight STR jumped from last to fifth position with a 3-5 card and 69 points sharing the same record with Eding Galera’s Visayan Cargo Bulls (3-5) and 62 points.
Metro Star 1 and 2 composed of the Ace and Expo teams share the last two slots with 2-6 and 2-7 record and 59 and 43 points respectively. Lito Javier of SkyFreight STR was the lone bulls-eye king of day from a doubles match against Visayan Cargo Bulls.
This event is organized by the Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia (EDSA) and sponsored by the top sea and air cargo forwarders in the Kingdom namely: Metro Star, COD, MRM, Filipino Express, Utex, Visayan Cargo and Sky Freight Forwarders.
