RIYADH, 25 July 2003 — M.G. Original bowling team led by Edgar Buenaventura and a pack of youthful players emerged as the week’s best team and best bowler awardees in the opening salvo of the Filipino Overseas Bowlers of Riyadh (FOBR) Thursday Inter-Commercial Bowling League at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.

The league is supported by the OFWBR and the newly-elected officers of FOBR Shakur Kamlian, chairman, Egai Asuncion, director for external affairs and sanctioning, Rod Tagaban and Ellen Bernabe, directors for internal affairs, Rommel Romano and Gladys Acosta, directors for technical Affairs. Fernie Balano powered M.G. Original to an impressive victory against the experienced Al-Mokry Est. team captained by Rico Feria and managed by Benjie Domado (17-2).

Balano fired a four game series of 706 while Carlo Abulencia, Marlon Bernabe, Candy Bacala Khom Akbara scored a separate series of 681, 629, 542 and 471. The M.G. Original, the current league leaders, registered an overall total team series handicap of 3,718 pinfalls. Topscoring for Al-Mokry Est. was the veteran Jing Sahagun and Rizal Dellosa with series of 656 and 645 respectively.

Omar Pascual toppled 599 series while Efren Abuyo collected 453 series in three games. Rico Feria got 380 series in two sets. The Al-Mokry Est. team keglers produced an overall total team series handicap of 3,271 points. Arnold Bellen and Henry Sonias lifted the Deer Najd Jewellers with a 12-9 victory against the Pangasinan Strikers.

Bellen and Sonias poured a separate four game series of 735 and 695 while supported by Joey Rivero (601), Cris Ibarra (363), Bobot delos Angeles (326), Abet Azarcon (298) and Chat Sonias (297). The Deer Najd Jewelers registered an overall total team series handicap of 3,629. For the Pangasinan Strikers, leading was Yuli Braganza (748), With Jun Ego (729), Johnny de Asis (713) and Wilson Bacala (707).

Team captain Joey Maningas tallied a series of 571. The Pangasinan Strikers collected overall total team series handicap of 3,524. Best bowler of the week awardee, Edgar Buenaventura led the Fathi Bowlers in beating the Palms team keglers (11-4). Buenaventura fired a four game series of 772 to romp-away the bowler of the week title. Bobby Ferrera followed with a series of 703.

Vher Cayago (664), Cris Cristobal (580), and Abe Abulencia (303) rounded up the lot. Palms team keglers garnered an overall total team series handicap of 3,358 with Ed Esmana posting a series of 615. Betsy Costumbrado scored a series handicap of 615 in four games. Inter-con’s bowling supervisor, Vic Edan contributed a series of 502 while Saju had a Series of 435 in three games. Ed Bautista and Mitos Arellano scored a series of 288 and 260 in two games. The Perfect 100 of Gigi Enriquez recorded a 10-7 win against the Saudi British Bank managed by Nelson Complido. Rene Tanglao and Enriquez led by carding a series of 646 and 615. Jell Tan rolled 506 while Jasper Durago sealed 495 points.

Sonny Alviso was at the forefront in Saudi British Bank by producing a series of 624. Ramil Espiritu, Vic Marzo and Luis Bonguit pocketed a separate three game series of 461, 447 and 428.
