ALKHOBAR, 25 July 2003 — The Al Gosaibi Bowling Center was filled to the brim during the final games of the Filbowler’s two-day 3rd anniversary celebration bowling tournament.
The finals was witnessed by Ambassador and Mrs. Guinomla, Dawood Al Gosaibi, Philippine Labor Attaché Manuel Roldan, POLO/OWWA representative Boy Tornea, Al Gosaibi Recreation Manager Ahmed Shalak and other distinguished guests.
The Filipino Tenpin Bowlers — Eastern Region (Filbowler) is the premier and biggest bowling association in the Eastern Province. The finals of the ladies’ division were held during the Wednesday Family Night with more than 50 bowlers and their families coming from all over the Eastern region. The championship crown was won by Crislou Dulatre with a total score of 920 against Pinky Rodellas’ 913 who garnered the 1st runner up award. Other awardees in the ladies’ division were: Tess Hussein, 2nd runner-up (909); Ging Bajo, 3rd runner-up (887); Zeny Marquez, 4th runner up (870); Marina Vicencio, 5th runner up (858); Ema Sumalabe 6th runner up (851); Analie Vistada, 7th runner up (850); Emmy Basco 8th runner up (816) and Gina Agamata 9th runner up (810).
Awarding of prizes and certificates followed after the games at the Al Gosaibi function hall. In his speech, Boy Tuazon, Filbowler President, welcomed the guests and thanked the members and bowlers for their excellent participation and assistance. He went on to highlight the achievements of the club. He cited among others, the laudable projects that Filbowler has undertaken by the club to assist the less-privileged back in the Philippines. Regular recipients of its assistance are Bantay Bata 163, the distressed OFWs and other charitable institutions back in the Philippines.
In the later part of the program Boy Tuazon presented an envelop to Boy Tornea, the POLO/OWWA representative in the Eastern Province representing Filbowler’s share of assistance to the distressed OFW’s in the region. The bowling center was full to the maximum during the finals of the men’s division. Soberano won the penultimate of the stepladder match against Gary Busaing. Soberano was once a GCC Singles’ Event champion in Abu Dhabi in 2001. Ely works for the Jadawel Group of companies and hails from the Ilocos region in the Philippines.
Other awardees of the men’s category were, Group A: Gary Busaing, 1st runner-up; Peter Aquino, 2nd runner up; Ben Tinampay, 3rd runner up and Ed Mendoza, 4th runner up. Elmer Bonifacio, Joe Tomagan and Ronald Pineda complete the top 8 of Group A. Group B winners were: Jojo Poblete Champion, Benjie Mallare, 1st runner-up; Ed Dianes, 2nd runner-up; Mel Valentin, 3rd runner-up and Domer Bunagan, 4th runner up, Ding Bermejo, Fernando Maynes and Homer Ocsio won the 5th, 6th and 7th runners-up respectively.
Ambassador Guinomla, an excellent bowler himself, congratulated the winners and went on to praise the Filbowler.
