SANAA, 6 August 2003 — Three people were killed and more than five injured yesterday in a clash between armed Beni Jabr and Safiyan tribesmen in Omran, 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Sanaa, a tribal source said yesterday.
Clashes between tribes, or between security forces and armed groups, are common and often bloody in Yemen, a country with a tribal structure where the number of firearms held by civilians is officially estimated at more than 60 million.
