JEDDAH, 8 August 2003 — Al-Nasr of Riyadh secured the fastest goal of the Seventh Sadaka Soccer Tournament, notching one in the first minute of the game, but that was all the joy they could savor after they were beaten 2-1 by the Senegal Olympic team in Asir yesterday.
Earlier, the Iraqi Olympic squad rallied to share goals and points with Fajer Al-Shaheed of Iran in a 1-1 draw. All the goals were scored in the second half.
Nasr were just jubilant when in the very first attack at the Senegal citadel saw Abdul Rahman Al-Bishi earning them a penalty when he was hacked down inside the box. Majed Al-Dossary stepped up coolly to slot home the goal cleanly from the spot.
Though the Senegalese side slowly wrested territorial advantage in the first half, they had only a 27th minute strike to show for their superiority.
A cross from the right was neatly directed home by Laaje Kita’s head.
And when Abdullah Fal struck in the 62nd minute of the game it was all over for Nasr as the African squad closed ranks to shut out Nasr’s game efforts. Fal rose above the defense to meet a sweetly-struck shot from a set piece near the goalmouth to score via a header.
Today, Asir plays the Syrian Olympic side in the first match, while Al-Hilal meets Al-Ahli in a battle of Saudi clubs in the second match.
