JEDDAH, 8 August 2003 — The Saudi Foods Industries Inter-Color Basketball Tournament opened with four teams parading in their resplendent uniforms at the Saudi Foods employees compound basketball court in Kilo 25.
SFISC chairman Roger Parabas and basketball coordinator Alberto Sebastian led the opening ceremony with Christian Laplace - factory manager, Sylvain Gutknecht - factory engineer, Mohammad Bayoumi - GM Al Haddaf Sports Wear, Jimmy Beltran - JSO executive director and sports caster Jojo Ligan attending the special occasion.
SFI Maggi team beat SFI Libby’s team 45-38. It was a sea-saw battle between the two teams and scores kept changing throughout the game. In the start of the final quarter, SFI Maggi applied trapping defense to halt the offensive plays of SFI Libby’s.
The plan paid well for SFI Maggi when SFI Libby’s started to feel the pressure and committed a crucial turnover in the dying minute. A. Pineda and G. Quilit scored 14 and 11 points respectively for the winners while R. Caasi topscored with 12 points for the losers. Saudi Foods Industries Co. (SFISC) is headed by Roger Parabas (Chairman). Other members are Lorenzo V. Guioguio III (Treasurer), Jun Amagsila (Secretary), Willy Catalan, Abet Sebastian, Omar Inocentes, Obet Serreon and Boy Tamayo.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony for the JBL 2nd Conference basketball tournament is scheduled for Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. in the Bin Mafouz Basketball Court. Three categories titles are at stake: Inter-company Bona fide, Inter-commercial open non-rated and the much awaited Above 40 open non-rated category.
