JEDDAH, 22 August 2003 — In the second week matches of Jeddah Cricket League’s Summer League, Nadeem Memorial beat Saleheen, UMA won against Ace Travel, SADAFCO beat Adamjee Insurance, Saudia City won against Saudi General Insurance, Traco Green defeated Hafil, Mahmoud Saeed clinched victory over Dabbagh and Saudia Milk outplayed Nestle Milo.
Nadeem Memorial piled up 218 runs in its allotted overs. Afzal was pick of the bowlers claiming 3 scalps for 32 runs. Waqas, Aziz and Razzaq had one wicket each.
Saleheen openers Arif (31) and Zakah (22) provided reasonable start, but the asking rate was not manageable for the lower order batsmen and Saleheen scored 160 runs. Sarrafaz claimed 3 wickets for 40 runs. Zafar picked 2 wickets for 19 runs.
Khalid Butt hit 141 for UMA as Ace Travel paid a heavy price for its poor catching. UMA amassed 276 runs in its 20 overs, the highest runs score in a 20 over match by any team. Khalid Butt was in fine form as he hit 14 fours and six sixes.
Waseem hit 17 including a boundary and a six and Qasser (70) provided no let up to Ace bowlers. Naseem remained unbeaten with 21.
Facing a mammoth score, Ace Travel batsmen made only 104 runs. Saleem (19), Rahat (22), Abdullah (37) and Mubashir (13) reached double figures.
Qaiser (3 for 10) wrecked Ace Travel with his deadly bowling picking 2 wickets in his first over.
Kasim single handedly won the match for Saudia City against Saudi General Insurance. First he grabbed 6 wickets for 28 runs only.
Then he contributed 78 runs out of 143 required for victory. Qamar (22-3 fours) and A. Rab (36) put up 59 runs opening wicket partnershipas SGI was hoping for reasonable score.
Shakeel (37-4 fours) stood firm but did not get and support from other end. Azeem chipped in with 23 as SGI managed 142 runs. Kasim (6 for 28) was the pick.
He then hit 73 off obly 25 balls as his partner contributed only 9 out of 82-run opening-wicket partnership. Saudia City managed to reach the target with 3 wickets in hand. Azeem (2 for 38), Mujeeb (2 for 29) were the wicket takers.
