AJWA Upset Gulf/Al Jomaih in Swatch-JBL Cagefest

JEDDAH, 10 October 2003 — AJWA RMTI upset Gulf/Al Jomaih 50-45 in the Swatch-JBL Champions Cup Basketball Tournament at the Bin Mafouz basketball court in Jeddah. Gulf/Al Jomaih committed back-to-back turnover in the dying seconds. Sales topscored with 15 points for AJWA and was adjudged as the Swatch best player of the game while Mirasol scored 11 points for Gulf/Al Jomaih.

United Yousef Naghi defeated KFCC 75-65. King Fahd Coastal City played well up to the third quarter and almost upset the defending champion. United Naghi played man-to-man defense to halt the KFCC offense. The plan paid off as KFCC started to miss their target and committed passing errors. Nader and Sarip scored 16 and 14 points respectably for United Naghi while Hani Nabil pumped 22 points for KFCC. Sihawi Sarip was the choice for the Giordano best player of the game.

Al Nakkah Trading beat Jaly Express 94-76. Jibril Gonzales topscored with 25 points for Al Nakkah Trading and was adjudged as the Swatch best player of the game while Jong Caoeili scored 28 points for Jaly Express.

Modern Times Technology Systems beat UPC 73-65. Callos chipped in with 27 points for MTTS and was adjudged Gulf Oil best player of the game while Soriano scored 23 points for UPC. Team Islam beat Tropahan 101-66.

Lang Indal paced Team Islam with 18 points and was adjudged as the Swatch best player of the game while Soson topscored with 23 points for Tropahan.

This weekend the semifinals for the Bona fide Division with start with Marriott Hotel, Salam Brothers from Group A. Group B will be represented by Hempel Paints and National Air Services in the single round elimination. The top 2 teams after the elimination round will play a best of 3 championship series.
