In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Stanley Cup champions Devils lost for the first time this season when diminutive Martin St Louis scored in the final frame to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 win. Vincent Lecavalier had drawn Tampa level late in the second period after the Devils took a 2-1 lead.

In Pittsburgh, the Penguins rebounded from a 3-1 deficit to edge the Detroit Red Wings 4-3.Rico Fata got Pittsburgh’s second goal, then added the game-winner at 11:31 of the final stanza.

In Nashville, second-period goals from Denis Arkhipov, Rem Murray and Greg Johnson helped the Predators down the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.

In Calgary, the Buffalo Sabres got an early goal from Ales Kotalik and another from Miro Satan with a second to play in the second period to down the Flames 2-0. Mika Noronen turned aside all 20 Calgary shots for the shutout.

In Edmonton, defenseman Steve Staios, who had just five goals all of last season, tallied twice and assisted on a third as the Oilers upset the Colorado Avalanche 6-3. Ryan Smyth added a goal and two assists.

In Phoenix, Keith Primeau’s goal — his first of the season — 6:16 into the final period proved to be the game winner as the Philadelphia Flyers edged the Coyotes 5-4.

In Los Angeles, the Boston Bruins rallied with three third-period goals to edge the Kings 4-3. Brian Rolston scored the first before Patrice Bergeron added another at 17:28, Mike Knuble getting the game winner at 18:12.

In San Jose, Marian Hossa scored twice as the Ottawa Senators trounced the Sharks 4-1. Marco Sturm had San Jose’s lone goal, denying Sens netminder Patrick Lalime a shutout.
