PARIS, 22 October 2003 — European satellite builder Astrium said yesterday it had signed an agreement to build two communications satellites for the Saudi Arabian company Arabsat.
“Scheduled to enter service in 2006, the satellites will provide communications services over a wide area within the Middle East region,” the company said in a statement. No financial details were given.
Astrium is the satellite unit of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company.
French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel said separately that its Alcatel Space unit has been selected to install equipment for both satellites.
