Stillman Keeps Lightning Unbeaten

TAMPA BAY, 27 October 2003 — Cory Stillman’s shorthanded effort early in the third period completed a comeback from two goals down, leading the undefeated Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Tampa Bay has won a franchise-best six straight games to start the season. The Wild have lost six of their last nine.

Stillman’s goal at 1:14 of the third period was the winner as the Lightning became the first team since the 1996-97 Dallas Stars to open the season with a 6-0 record.

Brad Richards and Vincent Lecavalier scored the other goals for Tampa Bay. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Marc Chouinard replied for the Wild, last in the Northwest Division.

In Atlanta, Olli Jokinen scored in the third period to give the Florida Panthers a 3-2 win and hand the Thrashers their first regulation loss of the season.

In New York, Mike Dunham made 23 saves as the Rangers upset the Detroit Red Wings 3-1. Petr Nedved, Bobby Holik and Mark Messier netted for the Rangers, who ended a seven-game losing streak at the hands of the Red Wings.
