PUNE, 5 November 2003 — There is good news for passengers traveling between Bombay and Mangalore on the Konkan Railway. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) for providing mobile services on the 900 kilometers stretch between the two points.

According to Chandra Prakash, principal general manager of BSNL, customers traveling on this route will now be able to make and receive calls and stay connected anytime, anywhere. The trains on this route will also soon have mobile PPCOs.

“We will help the railways design their telecom network” Prakash said. He further added that the BSNL will install 40-meter high towers at every station on the Konkan route to strengthen the network. Each tower will cover a distance of 10-12 kilometers. The KRCL will be providing space for towers and infrastructure.
