GREEN BAY, Wisconsin, 12 November 2003 — Donovan McNabb found Todd Pinkston from six yards with just 27 seconds on the clock to give the Philadelphia Eagles an upset 17-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers in NFL action on Monday.
The catch was Pinkston’s first touchdown reception of the season as the surging Eagles (6-3) won for the sixth time in seven games, coming from behind on the last four occasions. “We never quit,” said McNabb, who has suffered from a variety of injuries this season.
“This shows a lot and it’s an exciting season right now,” he added.
The game-winning pass capped off an eight-play, 65-yard drive.
McNabb went a yard on a quarterback keeper with nine and a half minutes remaining for the Eagles’ other TD, his first of the season.
The late score spoiled a huge effort from Packers running back Ahman Green, who set a club record with 192 rush yards, bettering Dorsey Levens’ old mark by two yards.
Green also scored twice for the Packers, who fell to 4-5 with the loss.
The game was played in a steady drizzle, which made for some early mistakes.
The first two quarters were largely uneventful, with Green quietly amassing 100 rush yards by midway through the second.
However, he also fumbled twice, losing one of them, the fifth time he has spilled the ball this season.
Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre also fumbled twice, but the Packers were able to retain possession both times.
Favre threw just twice in the opening quarter, the fewest passes he had attempted in the first 15 minutes since 1992, his initial season with Green Bay.
The Packers were first to score, Favre finding Green with a short screen that he took 24 yards for a touchdown 40 seconds from the break.
It was the 18th straight game in which he had thrown for a touchdown.
The Eagles launched the second half with a long drive that resulted in a 21-yard, David Akers field goal.
Philadelphia caught a break four minutes into the final quarter when McNabb was hit as he was throwing and his floater wound up in the arms of James Thrash, who took it 51 yards to the Green Bay three-yard line.
McNabb scored a couple of plays later — the ball barely breaking the plane of the goal line — to give Philadelphia a 10-7 lead.
The Packers replied quickly with Green scampering 45 yards on a fourth-and-one gamble with 7:03 remaining to make it 14-10 for the hosts.
McNabb then rallied the Eagles one more time.
“We showed today we’re a winning bunch,” he said.
“We’re determined.”
