CINCINNATI, Ohio, 18 November 2003 — The Cincinnati Bengals (5-5) surprised the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs (9-1) 24-19 in NFL action on Sunday, just as wide receiver Chad Johnson promised.
Johnson, who said a week ago that the Chiefs were vulnerable, hauled in seven passes for 74 yards, but it was namesake Jeremi Johnson who got the Bengals’ first TD on a 13-yard toss from Jon Kitna.
Kitna hooked up with Peter Warrick from 77 yards for another, with Warrick also scoring on a 68-yard punt return.
“It’s a new era,” Warrick said. “It’s great.
“CJ predicted a win and the team backed him up.”
Trent Green threw for 313 yards and two Kansas City TDs, both in the final period. “Act like class,” Bengals rookie coach Marvin Lewis told his team after. “Don’t let your mouth run off.”

In Charlotte, N.C., former Redskin Stephen Davis went three yards up the middle for the game-winning score with 1:09 remaining as the never-say-die Carolina Panthers (8-2) edged the Washington Redskins 20-17. Davis, released by Washington after a sub-par 2002 season, wound up with a game-high 92 yards.

In Nashville, Tennessee, the Titans saw their string of six straight 30-point games snapped in a 10-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
MVP hopeful Steve McNair, the NFL’s highest-rated passer, threw five yards to Justin McCareins for the game’s only TD, his 16th scoring toss of the season.

In Miami, Olindo Mare booted his third field goal of the game, a 43 yarder 8:48 into overtime, to give the Dolphins a 9-6 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, who got two field goals from Matt Stover.

In Philadelphia, the Eagles won for the seventh time in their past eight outings, drubbing the New York Giants 28-10. Brian Westbrook scored three times, taking Donovan McNabb passes 29 and five yards for TDs and scampering four yards for a third.

In Cleveland, Kelly Holcomb threw for 392 yards, hooking up with Andre Davis, Dennis Northcutt and Quincy Morgan for TDs, and James Jackson ran for two more scores as the Browns romped 44-6 over the Arizona Cardinals.

In Buffalo, the Houston Texans held the Bills without a touchdown for the third straight week in a 12-10 victory.
Backup Tony Banks, taking over for starter David Carr after he bruised his shoulder, found Andre Johnson from 46 yards for the game’s only TD.

In Chicago, Jeff Wilkins booted a 31-yard field goal, his third of the game, with 38 seconds remaining to give the St. Louis Rams (7-3) a 23-21 win over the Bears. Marc Bulger threw for 240 yards and two Rams TDs and Marshall Faulk rambled for 103 yards.

In New Orleans, the Saints got the game’s final 20 points to down the unlucky Atlanta Falcons 23-20 in overtime.
John Carney booted two field goals — the game-winner from 36 yards — and Deuce McAllister ran five and seven yards for TDs to rally the Saints.

In Tampa Bay, the Green Bay Packers put together a 17-play, 98-yard drive that was capped off by Ahman Green’s one-yard TD burst with 8:54 to play to edge the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6) 20-13.

In Denver, Jake Plummer returned from a month’s absence to throw for 253 yards and three TDs as the Broncos romped 37-8 over the San Diego Chargers.
Plummer hooked up with Shannon Sharpe from 11, 26 and 26 yards, with Clinton Portis adding 106 yards on the ground.

In Indianapolis, Edgerrin James ran for 127 yards and three TDs and Peyton Manning tossed for another 401 yards as the Colts (8-2) outlasted the New York Jets 38-31.
