BRUSSELS, 19 November 2003 — A dispute between FIFA and sport’s international anti-doping body WADA seems to have been solved in favor of soccer’s world governing body, International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said on Monday. The row pitted FIFA President Sepp Blatter against World Anti-Doping Agency head Dick Pound.WADA insisted on a mandatory two-year ban for an athlete found guilty of taking a banned substance, while FIFA wanted each case judged individually and saw a blanket ban as wrong. “FIFA was saying that the compulsory ban of two years for each athlete would not be acceptable in courts. WADA does not challenge that,” Rogge told Reuters.
