Peterson’s Last-Gasp Shot Gives Raptors Road Win

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, 24 November 2003 — Morris Peterson sank a game-winning free throw with 0.8 seconds remaining to give the Toronto Raptors an 81-80 win over the struggling New Jersey Nets in NBA action on Saturday.

Forward Vince Carter scored 21 points and added nine assists for Toronto, who won for the first time in six road games despite squandering a 20-point lead.

The two-time defending Eastern Conference champions Nets lost for the seventh time in 12 games as their early season woes, including some in-house squabbling amongst players, continue. Kenyon Martin led New Jersey with 26 points, just two days after getting into a shouting match with Alonzo Mourning at practice. Mourning added 15 points for the Nets, who were without the injured Jason Kidd.

Hawks 92 Cavaliers 83

In Atlanta, Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 26 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hawks past the Cleveland Cavaliers 92-83. Jason Terry added 19 points for Atlanta, while Stephen Jackson scored 10. Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers, while LeBron James had 15 points.

Knicks 99 76ers 88

In New York, Shandon Anderson scored 20 points to lead the Knicks to a 99-88 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Charlie Ward added 18 points for the Knicks, while Howard Eisley added 17 points and nine assists. Allen Iverson scored 27 points for the 76ers, while Marc Jackson added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Timberwolves 103 Clippers 91

In Minneapolis, Kevin Garnett scored 30 points and had 19 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Los Angeles Clippers 103-91. Sam Cassell had 18 points and eight assists for Minnesota, who led by 13 points at the half.

Quentin Richardson scored 36 points for the Clippers, while Chris Kaman added 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Mavericks 115 Nuggets 101

In Dallas, Antawn Jamison scored 26 points to lead the Mavericks past the Denver Nuggets 115-101. Antoine Walker added 25 points and 14 rebounds for Dallas, while Steve Nash chipped in with 18 points.

Andre Miller had 22 points to lead Denver, while rookie Carmelo Anthony added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Suns 100 Heat 98

In Phoenix, Amare Stoudemire scored 24 points to lead the Suns to their third straight win, 100-98 over the Miami Heat. Joe Johnson added 17 points for Phoenix, now 6-6. Dwayne Wade led Miami with 27 points, but the Heat still slipped to 3-11.
