Cowboys Top Conference; Pats, Ravens Win in OT

DALLAS, 25 November 2003 — The Dallas Cowboys, 5-11 a year ago, moved into a tie with Carolina for the National Conference lead with a 24-20 win over the Panthers in the NFL on Sunday.

Both teams now stand 8-3 for the season, with the Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams also finishing the day at 8-3.

Quincy Carter hooked up with Joey Galloway from 24 yards for Dallas’ first touchdown and then found Jeff Robinson from five yards for another. Aveion Cason raced 16 yards for the Cowboys’ other score. Carolina’s Stephen Davis ran for only 59 yards, including a one-yard touchdown.

Dallas coach Bill Parcells, who has a habit of turning teams around, said he was pleased with his team’s effort.

“This was a tremendous win for us. This is by far the best game I’ve had here in Dallas,” said Parcells. Dallas host the Miami Dolphins (6-4) on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day in the United States.

Ravens 44 Seahawks 41 (OT)

In Baltimore, Matt Stover kicked a 42-yard field goal 6:32 into overtime as the Ravens rallied to beat the Seattle Seahawks.

The Ravens put up 17 points in the final 6:41 of regulation, with Stover hitting from 40 yards with no time left on the clock to force an extra period.

Patriots 23 Texans 20 (OT)

In Houston, Adam Vinatieri booted a 28-yard field goal with 41 seconds left in overtime to give New England victory over the Texans, extending the Patriots’ winning streak to seven games. The Pats (9-2) forced overtime when Tom Brady, who threw for 368 yards, found Daniel Graham from four yards in the final minute of regulation.

Chiefs 27 Raiders 24

In Kansas City, Morten Andersen kicked a 35-yard field goal with four seconds remaining as the Chiefs edged the Oakland Raiders 27-24 to improve to an NFL best 10-1. Priest Holmes ran for 91 yards and scored a touchdown.

Packers 20 49ers 10

In Green Bay, Brett Favre, playing with a broken right thumb, hooked up with Javon Walker and Robert Ferguson for 66 and 16-yard touchdowns as the Packers opened up a 17-3 half-time lead and hung on to beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-10.

Eagles 33 Saints 20

In Philadelphia, David Akers kicked four field goals, while Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter scored touchdowns as the Eagles defeated the Saints for their sixth straight victory.

New Orleans’ Deuce McAllister had his team-record eighth straight 100-yard game, rambling for 184 yards, including 76 and 22-yard touchdowns.

In Buffalo, Edgerrin James scored a one-yard touchdown with 1:38 left on the clock as the Indianapolis Colts rallied to down the Bills. James had scored earlier in the fourth period while rushing for 108 yards.

Vikings 24 Lions 14

In Minnesota, Michael Bennett scampered 25 yards for one score and Corey Chavous and Brian Williams returned intercepts from Joey Harrington as the Vikings (7-4) beat the Detroit Lions to snap a four-game losing skid.

Jets 13 Jaguars 10

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Chad Pennington passed three yards to Santana Moss with 26 seconds left to give the Jets (4-7) a 13-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9). Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala ran a yard for Jacksonville’s touchdown.

In Cleveland, Tommy Maddox passed to Mark Bruener for the game’s only TD and Jeff Reed booted 23 and 46-yard field goals in the Pittsburgh Steelers victory over the Browns.

Titans 38 Falcons 31

In Atlanta, the Tennessee Titans trailed 21-0 after the first quarter before bouncing back to edge the Falcons 38-31. Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair passed to Frank Wycheck for two touchdowns before limping off with a calf injury, with backup Billy Volek then passing to Justin McCareins for their final touchdown.

In San Diego, Jon Kitna connected with Chad Johnson for five, four and 12-yard TDs and found Kelley Washington for a fourth to help the Cincinnati Bengals (6-5) past the Chargers 34-27 for their fifth win in six games.

Bears 19 Broncos 10

In Denver, quarterback Kordell Stewart rushed for a one-yard touchdown, and Paul Edinger booted four field goals, the longest from 54 yards, as the Chicago Bears surprised the Broncos 19-10.

Rams 30 Cardinals 27 (OT)

In Tempe, Arizona, Jeff Wilkins booted a 24-yard field goal with no time remaining to force overtime, before winning the game with a 49-yard goal for the St. Louis Rams (8-3) to sneak a 30-27 win over the Cardinals. The Rams led 14-0 early before Jeff Blake found Anquan Boldin for 54 and three-yard touchdowns to rally the Cardinals.

Dolphins 24 Redskins 23

In Miami, Ricky Williams ran for two touchdowns in the final 10:24 as the Dolphins rallied to beat the Washington Redskins 24-23.
