MANAMA, 4 December 2003 — Gulf Air and families of the 36 Bahrainis killed in the Airbus A320 crash over Bahrain in August 2000 have reached an out-of-court settlement.
The deal was announced in a joint statement yesterday by the airline and the committee representing the families of the victims.
Local newspapers said the parties were “pleased to announce that they have reached an amicable settlement, which concludes the claim of all the Bahraini families.”
“Payment of the agreed compensation has been made and those Bahraini families who had commenced court proceedings in Toulouse, France, have agreed to withdraw those proceedings,” said the joint statement.
The European consortium Airbus has its headquarters in Toulouse. All 143 passengers and crew were killed when flight GF072 from Cairo to Bahrain crashed into the sea off the coast of Bahrain.
