NASHVILLE, Tennessee, 9 December 2003 — Edgerrin James raced two and five yards for touchdowns and Mike Vanderjagt kicked five field goals to help the Indianapolis Colts (10-3) outlast the Tennessee Titans 29-27 on Sunday.

Vanderjagt, the NFL’s career percentage leader, hit from 21, 35, 36, 23 and 26 yards to give him 37 straight field goals and earn the Colts sole possession of first place in the AFC South Division. Steve McNair scampered two yards for one Tennessee TD and threw for two fourth-quarter scores as the Titans (9-4) came from 29-13 down to make a game of it.

In Denver, Clinton Portis ran for 218 yards and scored five times as the Broncos (8-5) surprised Kansas City 45-27, handing the front-running Chiefs their second loss of the season.

In Jacksonville, Fred Taylor ran for 163 yards and a TD and LaBrandon Toefield raced a yard for another as the Jaguars blanked the Houston Texans 27-0.

In Detroit, 41-year-old Doug Flutie hooked up with LaDainian Tomlinson for 16 and 73-yard TDs as the San Diego Chargers snapped the three-game home win streak of the Lions with a 14-7 victory.

In Atlanta, cornerback Kevin Mathis returned an errant Jake Delhomme pass 32 yards for the game-winning touchdown 1 1/2 minutes into overtime as the Falcons rallied to defeat the Carolina Panthers 20-14.
