DETROIT, 10 December 2003 — Brett Hull scored at 1:51 of overtime to become the third highest goalscorer in NHL history on Monday night, helping the Detroit Red Wings beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in the process.
Hull’s 732nd NHL goal moved the 39-year-old past Marcel Dionne into third place on the list with only Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801) ahead of him.
Hull one-timed a shot past Roman Cechmanek to score for the seventh straight game and give him a total of 16 goals this season. Brendan Shanahan and Pavel Datsyuk scored the other goals for the Red Wings in the first period but the Kings rallied with goals from Mike Cammalleri and Martin Straka in the third to send the game into overtime. Goaltender Dominik Hasek had 26 saves for the Red Wings on his return from injury.

In Boston, Glen Murray had a goal and an assist as the Bruins were held to a 2-2 tie by the Ottawa Senators. Dan McGillis scored the other goal for the Bruins, who are winless in their last five home games. Vaclav Varada and Wade Redden scored the goals for the Senators, who have not lost to Boston in more than two years.
Flyers 3 Canadiens 2
In Montreal, John LeClair scored with 1:13 to go in the third period, giving the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Magnus Ragnarsson scored with 3:19 left to tie the game as the Flyers improved to 13-1-3 in their past 17 games.
Avalanche 4 Capitals 1
In Denver, Rob Blake and Teemu Selanne both had a goal and an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche past the Washington Capitals 4-1. Andrei Nikolishin and Alex Tanguay scored the other goals for Colorado, while Joe Sakic added three assists. Sergei Gonchar scored the lone goal for Washington.
