JEDDAH, 11 December 2003 — The first meeting of the new women’s committee of the Saudi German Business Group was held recently at the residence of the German consul general. It was attended by a number of Saudi businesswomen, both Saudi and German.

Those attending saw the first joint venture contract signed between a Saudi and a German businesswoman. Princess Reema bint Saud signed a contract with Caroline Shneider for the Middle East distribution rights for Power Plate, a body workout machine.

“The women’s committee is not an isolated and segregated female exercise,” said the consul general’s wife in her opening remarks. “Women who are members are full members of the Saudi German Business Group of Jeddah and are invited to participate in all the group’s activities,” she said.

A project with great potential for Saudi women is the vocational training center being set up by the Saudi German Hospitals Group in cooperation with Medizinische Akademie Stuttgart.

Each of the four working groups of the committee discussed participation in the center’s activities and projects and proposed participating in others such as the Naam Group led by Samar Fatany who said, “Naam is a group of responsible citizens who feel it is important to have a civic sense and act as good ambassadors of Saudi Arabia abroad, giving a positive image of Islam and Saudis.”
