JEDDAH, 19 December 2003 — Al-Majal Service Master, ABC Est. & Danube Cali emerged champions in the 1st JSMG Basketball Tournament sponsored by Tharwat Al-Gharbia Al-Haditha for Food & Consumer Division.
In the Inter-Commercial division, it was a spectacular team performance of both teams of Ken Bautista, but Al-Majal coach Rolly Mendoza managed to beat their sister team Al-Mashwali of coach Michael Marquez 82-77 and were crowned champions. Nonoy Soliveres the leading MVP candidate scored 32 big points, Carpio & Guinto added 17 & 11 points each. Al-Mashwali hardly fought back as they had only seven players on the bench. Manguerra 36 points and Consignado 18 points did the star turn for Al-Mashwali.
In the 40's division, ABC Trading Est. managed by Sami Al-Kathiri snatched the championship trophy from fancied WRJ Cargo Forwarders of team manager Jag Malit 68-64. Mangune, the main man of WRJ, had a quality game and scored 17 points, but Radiamoda & Cortez contributed 24 and 17 points each to seal the game for ABC.
In the Inter-Supermarket showdown, Danube Cali of coach Peng Domingo & team manager Ronnie Llave overcame a sloppy first half and a 15-point lead deficit to pip Daawat Basma (Sarawat) of Joe Espiritu and coach Boy Corsega 64-60 and emerge as the champions. Ace shooting guard Ruben Villegas led his team to victory with 24 points while Bondoc and Santos starred for the losing team
