LAHORE, 25 December 2003 — The Lahore High Court continued the hearing yesterday of a constitutional petition challenging the appointment of Justice Irshad Hassan as Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan. Representing the petitioning Pakistan Lawyers’ Forum (PLF), lawyer A.K. Dogar argued a response to the submissions made by the attorney general of Pakistan who had contended the challenge to Justice Hasan’s appointment was predominantly based on press reports, which did not carry much legal weight.
