Full Metal Panic

As the days go by I notice that there are more and more people who watch and buy anime here in Jeddah. So this week, and hopefully in the near future, we will have an article to help you spend your money on the right anime.

Full Metal Panic is the first anime that I have seen that binds together a heavy dose of action, with robots (Gundam style) blowing each other up, and a heavier dose of comedy, funny Sergeant Sousuke being too serious in a quiet school. The plot goes like this; there are people in the world known as Wisps. They are somehow born with the knowledge of everything that is military. Our star Wisp is a carefree schoolgirl, who is targeted to be kidnapped by some evil organization. And so the good guys - the secret organization known as Mithril - sends in Sergeant Sousuke to protect the schoolgirl from being kidnapped. This anime is best during the calmer episodes where our star Sousuke manages to blow up relatively harmless things. Or is sent out on a mission to retrieve papers from a class, but ends up using smoke grenades. Strangely enough, the only aspect that doesn't really pass muster about Full Metal Panic is the war/combat episodes. The plot is too familiar and the bad guy keeps on trying and trying to kidnap the girl or blow up Mithril. You will find yourself waiting for the fights to be over so you can check out the comedy. Otherwise a very engaging anime, it ranks as my 9th best anime series.

Check out other animes at your local game shop or download them using the Net. To download, go to a search engine and type in Full Metal Panic.
