NEW DELHI, 20 January 2004 — The forthcoming parliamentary elections will be overseen by T.S. Krishnamurthy. He takes over as the chief election commissioner from J.M. Lyngdoh, who will retire Feb. 7, official sources said yesterday. Taruvai Subbayya Krishnamurthy, 63, the first Indian Revenue Service officer to become an election commissioner, joined the commission in January 2000. He is expected to continue at his new post until May 2005, when he in turn will retire.
