ISLAMABAD, 21 January 2004 — Pakistan yesterday ruled out hosting an Israeli minister even if the visit were under the aegis of the United Nations.
“We do not recognize the state of Israel. How can we allow their minister to attend a conference being held in Pakistan?” Yar Mohammad Rind, the federal minister for food and agriculture told the private Geo TV. Rind had been asked to comment on a Israel Radio report which had quoted Israel’s agriculture minister, Israel Katz, as saying he would visit Islamabad to attend an international conference under the aegis of the Un Food and Agriculture Organization.
“Even if the UN recommends his participation, we will explain to them our position on Israel,” the minister said.
