RIYADH, 30 January 2004 — The Riyadh Bowling Club welcomed the New Year with the start of the United Electronics Co. (EXTRA) Tuesday Night Bowling League here.
After more than a month’s lull that extended well into the holiday season, the RBC regulars swung back into action including the Tuesday players who had fun on the lanes on opening night last week.
Obviously, KIA’s Pride had the most fun after it clinched Team of the Week honors with a decisive 25-16 victory over Snap Shots 4 on total pinfalls of 3,359 and 3,217.
In the individual race for Bowler of the Week Romy Zafe of Al Mishari Pinbusters outstripped everyone else when he carded the high series of 942 on lines of 279, 256, 216 and 191. As a team the Pinbusters were equally impressive, drubbing Top Gun 24-15 on total pinfalls of 3,297-3,157.
Ara Bowlers also emerged easy winners over Blue Blood on 23-14 scoreline and total pinfalls of 3,258 and 3,069, while Starstrucks downed Wolf Strikers 15-13 (2,971-3,039) and RBC Patriots beat Untouch-A-Bowl 18-14 (3,106-3,063).
The 11th team in the four-man team tournament, ABV RG, played its scheduled match sans an opponent as per league rules. It tallied 24 points and total pinfals of 3,297.
The league sponsor United Electronics Co. (EXTRA) went the extra mile so to speak to make the players all the more happy by giving away several electronic and home appliance centers from microwave oven to vacuum cleaners.
The sponsorship was facilitated by United Electronics assistant marketing manager Ammar Issa. The co-sponsor is TFC (The Filipino Channel) through Middle East Operations Manager Antonio ?Nonoyî Velo.
Jim Lasaca and Freddie Santiago led the KIA’s Pride’s charge with identical series of 864.
Nelson Complido added 623, while Benito Santos chipped in 414 and Lito Briones 384. Jerome Mercado provided solid backup to Zafe’s anchor job at Mishari with 898 with Romy Duran the third man to complete four games at 763. Ding Balagtas, Bebot Esplanada and Athan Escalderon made contributions of 346, 175 and 173 in that order.
