CAIRO, 7 February 2004 — Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri will visit Cairo on Monday for talks with his Egyptian counterpart Atef Ebeid on a multinational power project and bilateral relations, the Egyptian news agency MENA said.

The power proposals aim to link the electricity grids of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Turkey, ahead of a more ambitious plan to marry the grids to those of Spain, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

The two men will also discuss plans to extend a pipeline to deliver Egyptian natural gas to Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

Also on their agenda will be the removal of obstacles preventing medicines produced in their respective countries from being sold in the other. Ebeid and Hariri will also discuss banking cooperation, MENA said.
