RIYADH, 13 February 2004 — Microsoft is seeking to expand operations in Saudi Arabia. The move follows a meeting three days ago between Chairman Bill Gates and Prince Alwaleed ibn Talal.
Prince Alwaleed made the expansion proposal when Gates hosted him to dinner at his Bellevue, Washington, home.
Gates welcomed the gesture and a follow-up meeting with the general manager of Microsoft Arabia, Dr. Khaled Al-Dhaher, probed areas of potential cooperation, according to a statement from Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom-Holding Compnay.
In addition to expanding IT, it was agreed that Kingdom-Holding Company and Microsoft Arabia would pool resources to fund select humanitarian projects in Saudi Arabia.
