JEDDAH, 14 February 2004 — The case of the reckless driver, who killed two schoolgirls in Madinah and injured seven others outside their school, will be transferred to the judiciary to give its decision, said Madinah Governor Prince Muqrin during a visit to the injured schoolgirls at King Fahd Hospital in Madinah.

“The governorate will follow up the details of the incident and transfer the case to the Shariah court to give its judgment,” Al-Watan Arabic daily quoted the prince as saying.

Earlier the governor visited the families of Haya Al-Nakhli and Tahani Abu-Halawi, the two high school girls killed in the incident on Sunday.

The Arabic newspaper identified the injured girl students as Rawan, 17, Salma, 16, Zainab, 16, Bayan, 18, Ashwaq, 18, Amal, 18, and Ghadeer, 17.

According to doctors at the hospital, the severity of the injured ranged from medium to serious, with one girl having to have a leg amputated.

Dr. Yousuf Al-Bouk, director of the hospital, briefed the governor on the condition of the students. Three of the injured — Ghadeer, Zainab and Amal — left the hospital on Wednesday.
