JEDDAH, 18 February 2004 — A girl had to use a machine to impersonate her father’s voice to convince a Saudi Telecom employee to disconnect her cell phone. Her phone had been stolen and she did not want the thief to use it to make calls. A Saudi Telecom employee refused to disconnect the phone when she called him the first time because the phone is registered under her father’s name. He insisted the father called instead. The girl bought a SR100 electronic device that disguises the voice and easily convinced the employee to disconnect the phone at her next attempt.
