Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Publisher: Lucas Arts

Developer: BioWare

Genre: RPG

This week we have a preview for what is hyped as the best Star Wars game. But receiving this kind of hype is not enough for the developer BioWare, this game isn't only expected to be the best Star Wars game, but also the best RPG available on PC.

The people who actually care about games and game developers don't need me to tell them that this game is developed by the same company that brought you the hit RPG Never Winter Nights. As you would expect from a new game, all the features in SW:KotOR surpass anything seen in Never Winter. Since you are set in the Star Wars Universe, you will find yourself in a field of Star Wars weapons, places, and people. The most interesting thing to note is your Dark side Light side meter. Whenever you interact with people you have choices to make and every choice will lead you to a different path. Depending on your actions your meter will shift either to the Light side or to the Dark side. Getting points on the light side is pretty tough, you help people by going on side quests for them. But getting to the dark side is pretty easy, all you have to do is threaten people or kill them.

For those of you who think that there is no way an RPG can be set in a Star Wars Universe, you will be completely shocked. The game follows the most basic rules of the RPG genre. You basically attack in turns, and your weapon and strength and basically luck will affect the hit points reflected in the enemy.

Up till now I am playing as a male soldier, but you have two other classes to choose from which include a scoundrel and a scout, and of course the female side of the classes. From there you can tweak little details of your character such as skills, which includes computer hacking, treating injuries, repairing and others. You also have control over everything just like any RPG for the PC.

This is basically the same game ported over from the X-Box, but still not everybody played the game on the X-Box. If you've never played it or yet even if you did play it on the X-box this game is a can't miss for Star Wars fans and Role Playing Game fans alike.

The one drawback of the game is that you need a top of the line PC to handle the awesome graphics, even I faced some problems, which is kind of funny that I had to download the latest version of OpenGL for my graphics card.

Look out for the full review in the coming weeks.
