Kingdom to Pay Farmers SR3.95bn

RIYADH, 23 February 2004 — Saudi Arabia will pay SR3.95 billion it owes to wheat and barley farmers in arrears for their supplies in the 1421H and 1422H seasons, Agriculture Minister Dr. Fahd Balghaneim announced on Saturday. He said Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd advised the Finance Ministry to make the payment beginning today. The government owes SR555 million to farmers in the 1421 season and SR3.4 billion in the 1422 season. Farmers have been told to visit the offices of the General Organization for Grain Silos and Flourmills to receive their dues.
