RIYADH, 27 February 2004 — The RBC Patriots announced their arrival with an impact performance during the fourth week of the United Electronics Co. (Extra) Tuesday Night Bowling League 4th Conference here.
RBC Patriots went near perfect in becoming the Team of the Week against a hapless Starstrucks.
The Patriots shot 28 points, just two shy of the maximum total of 30 and the most by any team thus far, and total pinfalls of 3,417 in an early show of force that rocketed the team to the top of the standings past erstwhile leader ABV RG.
The overmatched Starstrucks could only manage six points and total pinfalls of 3,893.
Snap Shots 4 also bowled big with figures of 27 points and 3,294 total pinfalls in beating Untouch-A-Bowl (13 points, 3,121 pinfalls) in the four-man team tournament sponsored by United Electronics Co. and organized by Riyadh Bowling Club.
Jun Sabalburo gave Snap Shots 4 the other half of the week’s honors when he clinched the Bowler of the Week award. He rolled the high series of 945 on lines of 217, 220, 193, 215 and 100 handicap. Top Gun whipped Blue Blood 20-11 (3,111-2,968), Al Mishari Pinbusters brought down ABV RG 19-16 (3,112-3,164) and Xtreme OPS edged out KIA’s Pride 21-20 (3,278-3,265) in the other matches.
The unmatched team in action of the week, Ara Bowlers, made 21 points and total pinfalls of 3,051.
In hitting the high 28 the Patriots filled all but two boxes for win points and bonus points for scores of 700, 750, 800 and 850 as they carded games of 823, 856, 900 and 830. Sammy San Juan and team captain Mike Mangubat laid the foundation of the Patriots’s overpowering display with sparkling series of 930 and 915.
San Juan shot games of 205, 230, 217 and 178 and Mangubat had rounds of 227, 236, 195 and 225. Besides Sabalburo the other notable scorers for Snap Shots 4 were Nap Torres with 823, Danny Francisco with 777 and Nani Caballero with 749.
Jett Cabana led Top Gun with 807, while Lito Briones and Elmer Penoso were the leading scorers for KIA’s Pride and ABV RG with 898 and 860 respectively.
