JEDDAH, 27 February 2004 — In the 8th week of SGB Baroom Friday League run under the auspices of Jeddah Cricket League, Kanoo outplayed Nestle Milo and Deccan Blues clinched 45 runs victory over Dabbagh.
Kanoo Outplay Nestle Milo
Kanoo came into its own and completely outplayed Nestle Milo, who were restricted to a meager 118 runs. Kanoo then rattled off the required runs in 14 overs only. Nestle Milo has a formidable batting line up and its batsmen have been scoring heavily in the current league but Kanoo bowlers using all their experience tied them in knots. Zubair (2 for 4) and Zahid (2 for 22) knocked out Nestle Milo's fight. Aurangzeb (28 — 2 fours and 2 six) and Asim (10 — 2 fours) started well by smashing 16 runs in the first over. Naeem Amin (1 for 31) was hit for 2 towering sixes and a four by Asim in the 1st over but Naeem had his revenge picking Asim up in his next over.
Though Amjad contributed 32 he plodded to the tally without a single hit the fence. Ahsan hit 22 including four and a six as Nestle Milo crawled to 99 for 4 wickets in 14 overs. Then Zahid claimed wicket of Amir who scored 11 runs. Zubair sent packing Abdullah (03) and Khalid (01) in one over as Nestle Milo reached 118 runs for six in their allotted overs. Azam Khan claimed one wicket for 29 runs.
Kanoo batsmen started in explosive fashion as Nadeem Amin (20 — 2 fours and a six) and Naeem Amin (40 — 2 sixes and 2 fours) scored 15 runs of 1st over. Ahsan (1 for 37) and Asim (2 for 42) sent both brothers back to the pavilion. Their departure slowed the scoring quite considerably as Zahid Qureshi (4 for 20) was bang on target. Kanoo needed to score the remaining runs in 10 overs to advance. But Kanoo could only score the required runs in 14 overs.
Deccan Blues Trounce Dabbagh
Deccan Blues piled up 167 runs in its quantum of overs and then dismissed Dabbagh for 122. A Quddous (87 n.o. — 7 fours and a six) and Razi (34 — 2 fours) provided a sound start of 76 runs in 9 overs. A. Quddous scored his first 18 runs in singles and then opened up and hit a six and 8 fours. Shabbir (20) joined A. Quddous after the fall of Razi's wicket and let him face most of the bowling. Shabbir accumulated his runs through single and doubles. A. Quddous was not out on 87. Imran (2 for 34) was treated with care and respect. Dabbagh batsmen failed to rise to the occasion and succumbed to 118 all out.
Humair (13) and Yahiya (16) started well. Asghar (11) and Shehzad (27 — 2 sixes) played steady as the required run rate crept up. Imran (26 — 2 sixes) tried to hit out to bolster the run rate but wickets kept tumbling. Dabbagh was all out in 17 overs. Raees (2 for 23) Shakeel (2 for 29) Quddous (2 for 14) and Badr (2 for 4) stood out.
