KUWAIT CITY, 22 March 2004 — Kuwait’s Cabinet yesterday approved establishing the first private airline in the emirate following the opening up of the domestic aviation sector to private investors, a senior minister said. The decision was based on a recommendation by Commerce and Industry Minister Abdullah Al-Taweel and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Sharar, said in a statement after the Cabinet’s weekly meeting. Al-Jazeera Airways will operate as a Kuwaiti shareholding company but only after being endorsed by Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the emirate’s Parliament.
