JEDDAH, 23 March 2004 — The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is investigating 35 real estate companies for serious violations. The violations include covering up for foreign employees, failures to maintain the proper records of real estate transactions, using unregistered commercial titles, and using unregistered logos. An official source at the Ministry of Commerce stated that covering up the presence of illegal foreigner employees may be punished with fines estimated to be SR 5,000 for the first offense; SR 10,000 or/and a one month jail sentence for the second time; and SR 20,000 or/and a 3 month jail sentence for the third time.
