DAMMAM, 26 March 2004 — Farm Superstore, Al-Fidasca and Al-Garawi Fila won their opening games in a convincing fashion in the ongoing 4th OFWC-EP Open Invitational Basketball Tournament being held at Al-Nahda Sports Complex here.

Farm Superstore beat Steel Techniques/Saudi Lucy Team 95-79. Farm Superstore quartet of Marcelo, Amido, delos Reyes and Abitan joined hands in the fourth canto to outscore Steel Techniques despite Omad and Soliano shining. Marcelo scored 10 unanswered points to pace the Superstore with 21 points followed by Amido 19, delos Reyes 18 and Abitan 17. Omad had a game high 28 points and Soliano 19 to lead Steel Tecniques.

Al-Wakeel Aluminum 107 Dammam Dome 103: Al-Wakeel Aluminum and Glass finally barged into the winning column, forging a 3-point overtime win over Dammam Dome. Veteran point guard Bong Reyes provided a bullet-like assist to Glen Abrantes, who hit the winning basket. Abrantes scored a season high 36. Other double digit scorers for Al-Wakeel included Bong Reyes 20 and Gallego adding 17. For Dammam Dome, Abdulaziz hit 26 while Marmay had 21. Glen Abrantes was adjudged Phuket Best Player of the Game.

Al-Fidasca 89 Fluor Arabia 70: Fluor Arabia succumbed to Al-Fidasca’s offensive thrust allowing the latter to pull away at the start of the 4th period. Roy Beneficto’s 18 points led his 4 others in double figures with Petallana drilling 15, Castillo and Sandrino 11 apiece and Capili 10. For Fluor Arabia team, Pelorino had 19 while Tudor and Sanchez scored 13 and 12 respectively. Al-Fidasca’s Beneficto was awarded the Phuket’s Best Player of the Game.

Al-Garawi Fila 78 Tropang Rizal 71: In Group B, Al-Garawi Fila Team outscored Tropang Rizal with a late spurt. Omar Asmad racked up 24 points as he single-handedly carried Al-Garawi to its 1st win. Tropang Rizal had Bong Garcia, Ahmad and Piguing scoring 18, 16 and 13 points respectively. Phuket’s Best Player of the Game went to Al-Garawi’s Omar Asmad.

Mazda 97 Dammam Hunks (Al-Joaz Pastry) 75: Richmond Ocado burned the hoops with 3 triples in his 23 points as his team pulled away by as much as 24 points in a single quarter. Hunks’ Alimania scored 32 while Diaz had a 27. For Mazda, other contributors were Reynan 21, “Payat” Caburao 16 and Batang 10.
