Pakistan, India to Exchange Prisoners

LAHORE, 29 March 2004 — Maj. Gen. Hussain Mehdi, director general of Pakistan Rangers, has said that India and Pakistan have agreed during meetings here that cases of those civilians who had inadvertently crossed the border from both sides would be solved within 24 hours and they would be freed after routine inspection.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of the four-day biannual meeting between the Pakistan Rangers and the Indian Border Security Force at the Rangers Headquarters here Mehdi said the main aspects discussed during the meetings included wire fencing, joint patrolling, illegal border crossings, maintaining boundary pillars, anti-smuggling measures and unintentional border crossing by civilians.
