RIYADH, 2 April 2004 — Arrangements have been made by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh and its consulate in Jeddah for the island’s expatriates to watch the live results of the general elections which will be held today in Sri Lanka from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sri Lankan Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar told Arab News that the mission had made these arrangements for the benefit of the large number of expatriates. “We have installed a live telecast linked to the Lanka TV which would give the results from 9 p.m. onward on Friday,” the envoy said. The embassy has apportioned a big hall equipped with a giant TV screen inside its premises .
The hall can accommodate more than 1,000 people and refreshments will be available free- of-charge to all the Lankans who come to the mission for this purpose.
The embassy has also installed hotlines for the people to get live election results from 11 p.m. Friday.
The numbers are 01-4608689 and 01-4608232. Consul General Maznavee Sadiq said he had made similar arrangements in the consulate with the cooperation of the community members. He said that Lankan societies in Jeddah have volunteered to bring refreshments for the people who would come to watch the election results.
