DAMMAM, 9 April 2004 — Coca Cola, Mazda, Samahang Novo Ecijanos (SNE), Bayat Ansari, Tropang Rizal, Steel Techniques and Arcan Vita are all winners in the ongoing OFWC-EP 4th Open Invitational Basketball Tournament being held at Al-Nahda Sports Complex in Dammam.
In the 1st Game, Arcan Vita won by default as SADIP failed to show up during the scheduled game.
Game No. 2 saw Mazda winning big as they outscored crowd-favorite KFMMC in the last minute with a thrilling 69-65 win. Mazda’s star player Richmond Ocado waxed hot as he pumped in 27 big points to pace the Automakers scoring their 1st win in two games as KFMMC top gunners R. Aenlle struggled by scoring a low 12 points.
Steel Techniques-Saudi Lucy Shellacs Flour Arabia 76-60: Joel Hermosilla’s Steel Techniques-Saudi Lucy team brought down the fighting Fluor Arabia quintet 76-60. Odron scored 16 points carrying his team to their 1st win in 2 outings.
Al-Bayat Ansari Nose Out Al-Saffar 82-80: The 4th game was a classic battle between the old Crispa-Toyota teams of the 80s as Al-Bayat and Al-Saffar battled it out from the opening bell up to the final buzzer. This one was too close to call as the scores were almost even with only 1-2 points separating both teams.
Samahang Novo Ecijanos (SNE) Outgun Dome 88-81: SNE’s dynamic duo of Fernandez and Moreno combined for 34 points to lead a balance attack and prevailed against the unheralded Dammam Dome of coach Wilson Brua. Dammam Dome failed to neutralize SNE’s offense as Fernandez and Moreno were unstoppable.
For losers, Marmay topscored with 28 points while Abdulaziz had 17 points.
Tropang Rizal Subdue Expat Dribblers 100-96: Hamad scored a game high 42 points as Tropang Rizal rallied to a come-from-behind win against the undermanned Jubail Expat Dribblers team.
Coca Cola Vanquish Farm Superstorers 82-72: Coca Cola finally tasted a win hammering the pressured-laden Farm Superstore squad in the last minutes of the game escaping a 10-point hard-earned win. Coke’s Aguas led the winning team with 25 points followed by Ortega and Pinili with 18 and 13 points bubble.
