RIYADH, 16 April 2004 — D’Young & Veterans went on to claim both team and individual honors on the fifth week of the Pizza Inn Thursday Night Bowling League Second Conference at the Riyadh Bowling Club here.
In scoring the sweep, D’Young & Veterans effectively built their case for the championship in the five-man team league event as they went near perfect in drubbing Amera Cargo 28-14 on total pinfalls of 4,089 and 3,767.
Fernie Ballano was the link to the D’Young & Veterans double when he carded the high series of 873 to clinch Bowler of the Week honors.
X-tremes supplied another strong performance of the week when they trounced Kirotzky 27-13 on total pinfalls of 3,979-3,751. League frontrunner D’Marvelous, meantime, looked solid in their 24-16 triumph over The Bowlmates on total pinfalls of 3,965-3,792.
‘A’ Bowlers downed RBC Patriots 22-20 (3,970-3,896) and Dink Fair “Sweater” rolled back Keglers Manila 17-12 (3,653-3,522) in the other matches in the five-man team tournament sponsored by United Food Company (Pizza Inn).
D’Young & Veterans swept the win and bonus points for series scores of 850, 800 and 950 and missed just the bonus point in the third game for the series score of 1,000 with team games of 1,059, 1,046, 1,027 and 957.
Eric Perez ably backed up Ballano with 872. Arnold Marchan contributed 796 that went with the 778 by August Yema and 770 by Ronadl Bautista. Edwin Pecson and William Ybay proved the 1-2 punch for X-tremes with 831 and 814 respectively, while teammates Lito Briones added 790, Arman Gurung 763 and Leo Laudencia 607.
