What is happening in Iraq is very dangerous and we need to look carefully at the total situation. I am not writing here from passion but from a realistic perspective that place security and peace for Iraqi people above all else.
I look at what is happening to the Iraqi people on the basis of the following:
First, the Iraqi people have the right to defend themselves. It is a right granted to them by international law which grants people the right to defend themselves against foreign occupation.
Second, resistance must achieve the Iraqi people’s goal and hopes.
Third, Iraq must become a place where different political groups can settle their differences amicably. Most of the present ones have little to do with Iraq even though many of them pretend to.
Fourth, with respect to Iraqi resistance, what is happening now is not to be defined by that concept. It is more like destruction which will turn Iraq into another Afghanistan.
Thinking of these points, I am proud of the heroic Iraqi resistance. It sends a clear message to American forces in Iraq that their mission there will not be the walk in the park that they expected and were told to expect.
I also know that the lack of security plus the foreigners entering Iraq will only increase the time the Americans stay there; Washington is looking for excuses to stay there and so the excuses have been found.
What is happening in Iraq is happening in the absence of a legal elected government, in the absence of Iraqi police to secure the internal situation, in the absence of an Iraqi army to protect the country’s borders and put pressure on American forces to preserve peace and stability and provide an honest living for Iraqi people.
After the American army brought down the Iraqi government and discharged both the Iraqi army and police, Washington took full responsibility as an occupying force. The demand for occupying forces to leave Iraq will save America from a big problem similar to Vietnam, but at the same time it will put Iraq in great danger and will turn the country into a conflagration that will affect its neighbors.
So it is wise not to allow America to leave Iraq with ease. America is responsible and Bush and his government must accept the responsibility and build the new Iraq that they promised.
