I don’t think there is any one in the whole world happier these days than the war criminal, Ariel Sharon, seeing his American allies copy his brutal tactics in Iraq. These include collective punishment, assassinations, extra-judicial killings, demolition of homes, burying women, children and old men under the rubble, using tanks, rockets and F-16 fighter planes to bomb civilians.
The Americans continue to apply all these tactics in Afghanistan. But the Zionist-dominated world media have totally neglected Afghanistan, as have the Arab media. The unfolding bloody events in Fallujah, Baghdad and other Iraqi cities should remind us of the ongoing massacres in Afghanistan as well.
American sources put the number of Iraqis killed over one year since the invasion at 12,000 men and women. I don’t think the victims who have been killed in Afghanistan since the invasion of that country could be less than those killed in Iraq. This figure is far greater than the victims of Al-Qaeda and other terrorist and criminal organization over the past 10 years.
I am not alone in saying this. A large number of the American people would today tell you that the wave of terror unleashed by the Likud gang in the White House has made the world far less safer and more dangerous.
We should always remind others and ourselves that it was the United States alone, apart from Israel of course, which refused to sign the agreement leading to the creation of an international war tribunal. Of the countries of the world only America and Israel said no. Worse still, America pressed other countries to unilaterally sign a separate agreement that would exempts all American citizens working abroad, whether military or civilians, from being tried before the international court. Washington wants its citizens to enjoy immunity from trail for the crimes they commit outside their country. Why, because Americans are not like other humans and because they are above international law. So they should never stand before non-American courts. America also wants other countries to commit themselves not to assist or encourage any third party to seek the trial of American citizens involved in crimes committed in other countries.
The Americans, and before them the Israelis, consider themselves above any law. In other words, the Americans and Israelis regard themselves as superhuman.
Developments in Iraq and in Afghanistan point to the degree of contempt held by the administration of President George Bush for the international community and the arrogance and intransigence with which this administration continues to treat other nations. No wonder, this always leads to stupid decisions and hasty actions.
Would the Arabs remain on the sidelines, watching helplessly while the bloody massacres in Iraq go on as they did with the daily massacres in Palestine being committed by Israel? Would the forthcoming Arab summit come out with something really new other than the old rhetoric and repeated talk of peace initiatives long rejected by the United States and Israel?
One would wish to see our leaders plan for the future and learn some lessons from history. They should realize that weak-kneed policies would only encourage the Israelis and Americans to go ahead with their plans aimed at humiliating the Arab and Muslim worlds. This would only prolong the conflict and allow the massacres to go on indefinitely. Our leaders should realize that it is in their best interest to stand by their people and defend their nation’s rights and interests before it was too late.
