JEDDAH, 30 April 2004 — The final of the Local Hero Tournament for In Line Skating will be held at Tahlia Street here from May 5 to 14.

The final will feature three winners selected from the opening round of the tournament held at the Corniche in Alkhobar earlier this month.

More than 100 participants competed in the Alkhobar round. Abdul Aziz Ahmad Basri won first place, and Kareem Muhammad Othman and Zaid Abdul Kareem Al-Rewali came in second and third places respectively. They maintained “high standard of performance” throughout the tournament, which is organized by Red Bull in cooperation with the General Presidency of Youth Welfare. Preparations are being made for the second round of the tournament being held next week at Tamimi Supermarket, at the intersection of Al-Thalatheen and Al-Dabab streets, which will also see more than 100 participants.

During the event in the Eastern Province, the first day was set for training under the supervision of a group of referees appointed by the Asian In Line Skating Federation. After the elimination rounds, conducted over nine days, the finals was held on the 10th day.

“The Saudi youth who participated in the tournament have been responsive and some of them have the necessary skills. The standard maintained by them shows they have enough skills to participate in regional tournaments, especially if we take into account the support and training offered by Red Bull,” said Ghosh, the Middle East champion of In Line Skating.

The organizers distributed certificates to winners and honored the official bodies that contributed to the success of the tournament, particularly the Emirate of the Northern Region, the Eastern Province’s various organizations including the Municipality, Tourism Committee of the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce & Industry, traffic police, Commander of Security Patrol, Red Crescent and Saudi TV.
