LG United Naghi, Juffali, Shalimar, Dabbagh and Kanoo Travels Shine

JEDDAH, 7 May 2004 — LG United Naghi beat Afkar Promo-7 in a close encounter, Juffali Michelin thumped KAIA by 8 wickets, Al Sharief Shalimar won by one wicket against Deccan Blues, Dabbagh crushed Nestle Milo by 50 runs and Kanoo Travels scored a five-wicket victory over Attar Travels in the 6th week of Division I Friday League matches organized by the Jeddah Cricket League (JCL).

LG United Naghi scored 139 for 7 on batting first. Prolific batsman Maqbool was unlucky to be run out for 14 but Wajid patiently scored 38 valuable runs as Salam 18, Athar 16 and Extras 22 boosted LG's total. Khalil picked up 3 for 22 and Azhar 2 for 27 for Afkar Promo. In reply, Afkar Promo failed to beat the target and they fell one short after being bundled out for 138. Nadeem's 40 and Majid's 20 went in vain, while Asad and Salim grabbed identical figures of 2 wickets for 17.

In another encounter, KAIA, batting first, were 126 all out, with Shoaib 46 and M. Taher 28 offering some resistance as Zahid ran through KAIA with figures of 4 for 27. Juffali overhauled the 128 total in just 13 overs losing only two wickets. Imran hit an unbeaten 47 (5x4,1x6), Naeem Shah made 50 off just 22 deliveries (7x4, 1x6) and Zahid contributed 20 as Juffali raace to victory. Zamim and Shoaib took one wicket each.

Deccan Blues made 186 for 7 in 20 overs, with left-handed Quddos (31) and hard-hitting Sri Lankan Rohan (28) giving them a flying start. Later, Rayees contributed 18 runs, Rehan (19) and Anees (19) before captain Raziuddin again proved his consistency with 46 runs (4x4, 1x6). For Shalimar Mubashir 2 for 30, Zain 2 for 31 and Tahir 1 for 38 bowled well. Shalimar lost both their openers cheaply but young Abdullah anchored the innings with 44 as Zain 33 and Rahat 43 contributed in Shalimar's victory. Shalimar made 188 for 9 and won by one wicket. Younus 2 for 30, Rehan 2 for 34, Rohan 2 for 19 and Rayees 1 for 16 stood out.

Dabbagh piled up a huge total of 216 against Nestle Milo, Yaseen 76 (4x4, 3x6), Shakeel 47 (3x4, 1x6) and Khalid 20 and extras 21 boosted the Dabbagh innings thus providing their opponents a challenging target. Umer took 2 wickets, Zahid Qureshi, Abdullah Zahid, Khalid, A. Z. Khan and Asim took a wicket each. In reply it was uphill task for the Milo as they were skittled for 166 for 8 in 20 overs as Asim 48 and Abdullah Zahid 36 (4x4, 1x6) battled in vain. Shakeel took two wickets, Yasin, Shehzad, Khalid and Naseer took a wicket each. Tanveer claimed two victims behind the stumps as Dabbagh won by 50 runs.

Attar's star batsman Rayees Ahmed scored a scintillating 87 against Kanoo Travels with the help of singles and doubles as wickets fell at the other end at regular intervals. Only Shamim, who scored 40 valuable runs, matched Rayees in temperament as they helped Attar rattle up 162 runs.

Shoukath grabbed 3 wickets with his medium pace; Shoaib took one wicket while the rest of the wickets were gifted by run outs. In reply, Kanoo Travels managed to reach the victory target in 19.1 overs, making 164 for 5 wickets with Rashid Khurshid 42, Najam 37, Shoaib 24, Waseem 21 not out and Shoukath 15 not out blazing away with some delightful strokes and enabled Kanoo Travels to win this match with ease. The most successful bowler for Attar Travels was Shamim with 3 for 23. Saeed grabbed one wicket.
