JEDDAH, 19 May 2004 — The Jeddah municipality has given owners of dilapidated buildings 60 days to repair them or face demolition. If the owner’s address is known, he will be summoned by the municipality and told to fix or demolish the building, Al-Madinah daily reported. If the address is not known, a sign will be posted on the building telling the owner to visit the municipality or face demolition after 60 days. Owners failing to act by the deadline will have to pay for the demolition plus an SR5,000 fine. The Civil Defense will check all newly-repaired buildings to see if they comply with safety regulations, the paper added.
