Boonen Wins Stage, Ullrich Stays Second

WANGEN, Germany, 2 June 2004 — Belgian Quick Step rider Tom Boonen won the second stage of the Tour of Germany here yesterday completing the 172.5 km stretch between Bad Urach and Wangen in a time of 4:00:47 hours.

Australian rider Allan Davis of the Liberty team finished second with Danilo Hando of the Gerolsteiner team third.

Michael Rich of Gerolsteiner, winner of the first stage in Karslruhe, leads the overall standings from Tour de France runner-up Jan Ullrich who arrived with a cluster or riders.

Quebec 2008 Tour de France Start Plan Shelved

In Montreal, the organizers of the Tour de France ruled as too complex a proposal to start the 2008 edition of the race in Quebec as part of the city’s 400th anniversary celebrations.

“The idea was looked at, the potential was there, but we can’t agree to it,” Tour competition director Jean-Francois Pescheux told La Presse newspaper yesterday.
